I went to the FMGG Fall Fest at the Franciscan Monestary. Best pumpkin patch around. I got one. Great music, food, vendors and yes, I bought their hyper-local honey (3 jars). I also got to meet some grass mowers (sheep!) and even pet one. (OMG).
I was a volunteer at the FMGG years ago but fell off the garden wagon, so to speak, and haven’t been able to do much with them lately. I love seeing how they really grew and cultivated the back area. Fall Fest really eases us into the season and the addition of sheep to meet and watch as they eat clover is (for me) better than any thing on Netflix.
Which brings me to endorsements, running for ANC and campaigning. Odd segue, but relevant.
Some ANCs are receiving endorsements from Special Interest Groups. I chose not to participate in the endorsement process, so I was not considered for those endorsements. I respect that voters may consider endorsements when making their decisions, but an organization's endorsement is not an official ANC endorsement or a determination of who can best represent the residents of our SMD (5b03). I encourage voters to review the candidates, their positions, their records — and make their own decision.
If you read back about my platform, it says: HOW (the process) not WHAT (a particular issue). And I stand by that. There will always be an issue, challenge or concern. My position is that decisions should never happen behind closed doors or forced onto a neighborhood without public consent. That it’s about understanding the whole scope of the issue, and following the process, not personal agenda or political influence. And that is how I will proceed if I’m chosen to represent 5b03.
All that said, when I got back from Fall Fest, I saw in my email that I was endorsed by the DCVFA (DC Voters for Animals). I made only one exception with regard to any solicitation for endorsement and it was from DCVFA, because I am an unabashed animal rights person. And that will never change. And if I could have some sheep to mow my grass, I would. And then I’d want to snuggle with one on the sofa.
