Showing up

Saturdays are long days for me. They start at 4am and don’t truly end till around 8pm. Markets and all. Add in any community events and I have to live and die by my oddly long handwritten list and calendar. (Checking off completed items is a real dopamine hit.)

This morning (after market set up over at the Arts Walk) I headed over to Noyes Park to help with trash clean up. There were 2 students who arrived early like me. I learned that it took them each roughy 30min - 1 hour to get there (by bus) to acquire community service points towards graduation. Damon who’s on the Board of Friends of Noyes Park arrived and we all were able to divide and conquer. Truth be told, the park was cleaner than one would think being across from the school. Most of the trash were candy wrappers. Tis the season.

I did make it over to the rather large 13th Place Block Party to see all the fun and festivities. One notable standout was a little guy dressed as Pope Leo. It reminded me of when Obama was in office and the kids would go to the White House to trick or treat and that one year a kid showed up at the Pope in the Pope Mobile. Those were the days, eh?

If you are someone who shops at my tea company at the Monroe Street Market you may have seen Maggie there today selling. When I showed up to restock she said this: “When are we going back out? I’m free this week especially Tuesday.”

And that my friends is another reason I love what I do, my community and hiring exceptionally cool people, of any age. So you will likely see me and Maggie this week hittin’ the ole door knocking campaign trail again as we inch closer to November 3rd.

I’ll also be at the Noyes Park Halloween Parade and Party tomorrow from 1-5pm. I do hope you will check it out. It’s a truly great event. Weather should be pristine. Just like the park.
